Case Study

Factory No.1

Project Overview

Factory No.1 is an old tobacco factory in Bristol comprised of two heritage buildings. These were converted into residential blocks of one, two and three bedroom apartments, with nine commercial units sitting alongside them. Philosophy worked with leading restoration developer City & Country on the development brand and marketing.

The area where Factory No.1 is located is famed for its annual Upfest graffiti festival but had yet to become a destination for young professionals priced out of Bristol’s city centre. The development brand we created needed to change perceptions amongst the target buyer base, by giving the location some edge and excitement and making sure communications about Factory No.1 stood out.

Philosophy commissioned a local graffiti artist to produce a piece of artwork which could be used across the brand identity and marketing. The graffiti became the signature graphic, which we balanced with a more classic typographic logo, in keeping with City & Country’s wider portfolio. Our client loved the graffiti so much, it is now integral to the commercial units, decorating the arcade of shops. Philosophy developed the shop front look and feel and produced film and vox pops for social media, signage and event design.
